Introduction

The intent of both the Timeline and Places pages is to provide a visual context for people/events in terms of time and space. The enormous timeframes combined with the significant shifts in focus from Upper to Lower Egypt make it challenging to absorb a sense of how events flowed. My hope is that the use of the clickable timeline and maps will help to build an intuition around this.

Timeline

I need to rethink the way that clicking on the timeline and clicking on the Pharaoh list scroll the key events panel. They currently use different algorithms, which I have noticed can be a bit disconcerting. I think that some of this is caused by conflicts between different sources. I need to grind through the details and come up with a better solution.

I have shown one example of each of the five pharonic names (where available) for each pharaoh. However, there are many variants available. For example, Ramesses I has more that 26 versions of his Horus Name alone. To get a better picture of this topic, I recommend the Pharaoh.se website and (Leprohon 2013).

The events shown come from a variety of sources, mostly (Manley 1996), and (Shaw 2000), I have generally followed Shaw's dates where there is a conflict.
